German THE Gas Positioning
German THE Gas positioning comes from the weekly MiFID II Article 58 position report that the trading venue files and ESMA republishes in its register, which splits open interest into investment funds, investment firms and credit institutions, other financial institutions, commercial undertakings and operators with compliance obligations. It shows who holds the open interest each week and which way they lean, the EU counterpart of the CFTC's Commitments of Traders report.
What drives German THE Gas positioning
Trading Hub Europe is the single German gas market area, formed when the GASPOOL and NetConnect Germany areas merged. Positioning moves with German storage, import routes, weather and the gas burned in German power plants. Commercial undertakings are utilities, suppliers and industrial buyers hedging physical gas at the German hub. Investment funds trade THE as a German view on the European gas balance and against the Dutch TTF hub.
How to read German THE Gas positioning
Read German THE Gas positioning against its own history: where the investment-fund net sits in its 52-week and 3-year range, and whether commercial hedgers lean the other way. Check TTF positioning when THE reaches an extreme, because a move on both hubs points to a European gas story while a move on THE alone points to German supply or demand.
This is the German THE natural gas future on EEX. Read it with Dutch TTF Gas (ICE Endex) and Dutch TTF Gas (EEX) to separate a German view from a broader European one.
COTInsight scores German THE Gas every week on the layers that do not need a price: the 52-week z-score, the 3-year COT Index, the regime classifier, momentum and streak, the open-interest trend, concentration, and the positioning cycle. There is no price series for this contract, so no divergence flag and no outcome statistics.
