French Power Positioning
French Power positioning comes from the weekly MiFID II Article 58 position report that the trading venue files and ESMA republishes in its register, which splits open interest into investment funds, investment firms and credit institutions, other financial institutions, commercial undertakings and operators with compliance obligations. It shows who holds the open interest each week and which way they lean, the EU counterpart of the CFTC's Commitments of Traders report.
What drives French Power positioning
Nuclear supplies the largest share of French generation, so reactor availability is the first thing that moves the French curve. When the fleet runs well, France sends large volumes of power to its neighbours, and when reactor problems cut nuclear output the market tightens fast. Hydro and renewables add a weather layer on top of that nuclear base. Commercial undertakings are generators, suppliers and industrial consumers hedging baseload delivery, while investment funds trade outage news and the spread to German power.
How to read French Power positioning
Read French Power positioning against its own history: where the investment-fund net sits in its 52-week and 3-year range, and whether commercial hedgers lean the other way. Check whether an extreme lines up with reactor outage news or with the turn into winter delivery before reading it as a change in sentiment.
This is the French baseload future on EEX, covering delivery in every hour of the period. Read it next to German Power, since comparing the two books separates a view on French nuclear supply from a view on continental power as a whole.
COTInsight scores French Power every week on the layers that do not need a price: the 52-week z-score, the 3-year COT Index, the regime classifier, momentum and streak, the open-interest trend, concentration, and the positioning cycle. There is no price series for this contract, so no divergence flag and no outcome statistics.
